How you'll make an impact

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will be responsible for leading technology initiatives bringing best-in-class functionality and cutting-edge technology to the Global GBS business (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia) in accordance with Gallagher’s Corporate Technology strategy. The CIO partners strategically with the GBS Operating Committee and with Gallagher Corporate Technology to develop a technology roadmap and operating model that aligns and delivers business strategy from a technology standpoint. In addition, the CIO will be responsible for IT shared services for GBS Global including PMO, M&A, Architecture, Platform Development, and IT Security and Compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Vision and Influence

  • Contribute to GBS global business strategy as a member of the GBS Global Operating Committee senior leadership team, influencing and educating on the art of the possible from an IT perspective. Manage the technology function as a business leader beyond the requirements of the IT function.
  • Together with the relevant Executive Committee members and members of the Corporate Technology function, proactively propose, develop and execute a comprehensive technology strategy, architecture and IT Operating Model that aligns with Gallagher’s and the GBS Global overall business objectives, emphasizing digital transformation, data/AI, cloud migration, product, and innovation specific to the three business lines within GBS (Benefits, Financial, & Talent). Drive change with a sense of urgency.
  • Establish technology principles and standards in alignment with Corporate Technology, identifying and executing upon opportunities to grow the business, fostering cross-divisional collaboration to improve efficiencies throughout the global enterprise.
  • Proactively drive the adoption of advanced analytics, data science, and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to continue to uncover valuable insights for our clients. Identify new areas where these technologies and analytics could transform our colleague and/or client experience.
  • Proactively drive continued improvement on digital experiences for employees and clients, with a strong focus on data, AI, cloud migration and automation of tasks through the sales, placement, analytics, and client servicing cycle.
  • Lead conversation with GBS leadership to identify technology-driven opportunities to drive revenue growth. In partnership with these leaders, create business cases for technology initiatives, including justification of cost, to present to the GBS Global Operating Committee and Gallagher Corporate. Ensure opportunities for investment are prioritized according to enhancement of operational efficiency, reduction of costs, and stimulation of revenue growth.
  • Actively participate as a member of Gallagher’s global CIO community including participating in regular meetings and working with Technology peers on common initiatives.
  • Partner with carriers, as necessary.

Leadership and Execution

  • Lead (where relevant) the evaluation, selection, and implementation of cutting-edge technology solutions and platforms that will drive ownership and commitment from GBS leadership and Gallagher Corporate Technology to support business growth, ensuring both cost and process efficiency are maintained throughout.
  • Work with business line and functional leadership to continually rationalize the GBS application portfolio, consisting of applications added organically and acquired from M&As, to minimize vendors, applications, complexity, and cost.
  • Ensure the ongoing operation of software applications meets requirements for performance, availability, recoverability, compliance, and security.
  • Ensure that GBS IT leaders leverage Gallagher Corporate Technology Services including IT Infrastructure and Security. Ensure Corporate Technology initiatives are understood, supported, and implemented across GBS.
  • Implement a target operating model for IT ensuring that it drives a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration across technology teams, and promotes agile methodologies, cross-functional collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
  • Guide and hold IT Leadership accountable for development of processes and performance metrics required to operate efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure that IT Leadership manages vendor relationships with Sourcing to ensure cost-effective technology solutions, while ensuring service levels and performance standards are met.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes across all business lines and country jurisdictions, providing strategic guidance and thought leadership to the IT Leadership team as well as to GBS leadership.
  • Ensure the portfolio of GBS IT projects is managed and governed appropriately from intake through delivery, encompassing justification, prioritization, and execution.
  • Responsible for GBS IT finances including budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.

People Management and Development

  • Ensure the team is sized appropriately (including location of work); recruit, motivate, and develop a superior team; and establish a clear definition of excellence in technology development and/or implementation that demonstrates urgency and is driven by business and client needs.
  • Ensure practices are followed to maximize team performance and retention, including performance management, training, and development
  • Ensure appropriate succession planning initiatives are undertaken to ensure strong CIO and IT Leadership for GBS in the future.
